WE ARE
GRANDPARENTS ON THE MOVE

Working Towards a Brighter Future

Established in 2003, Grandparents On The Move was incorporated as non-profit 501 (c)(3) in 2008. The purpose of Grandparents On The Move Inc., is to support the needs of grandparents and other caregivers left with the responsibility of raising family members children.    Children’s well-being is at the forefront of what we are working towards with other grandparents. Our programs and activities are designed to be a catalyst that help support grandparents and caregivers reach their goals and full potential.

About Us: Welcome

OUR STORY

The Journey Begins

Ms. Nora Murray is the President of Grandparents On The Move, Inc.  Ms. Nora's journey began as a childcare provider to her grandchildren until she became the primary caregiver of her granddaughter after the deaths of her son and daughter-in-law.  Ms. Nora recognized the need for resources, quality services and adequate childcare for grandparents who found themselves in similar situations.

Once the need was recognized Ms. Nora systematized and structured a team of grandparents and went to work.   Ms. Nora started within the Detroit Public School system at Marion Law Academy on Detroit's east-side.  She meet with Principal Paula Hughes to formulate a plan to provide children with after school programs to stimulate minds and family events to bring together the community.  Through joint collaboration Ms. Nora was able to provide GOTMO programs to more than 300 children within the Detroit Public School system.

GOTMO's participation was not just limited to the Detroit Public School system we established grandparent counseling groups while hosting several annual charitable events.  One of our main goals is to bring families closer together.  Hosting an annual Father Daughter and Mother Son dance along with a Valentine Day social are just a few of the ways we accomplish family unite.  Through these family social events GOTMO was able to help engage over 100 families throughout the years.

With donations and help from so many wonderful people and organizations we have been able to adopt children for Christmas for the past 10 years.  Our GOTMO Christmas program has helped over 150 families overtime. The numbers continue to grow each as we continue our journey with our goal to touch as many children as we can.

GOTMO's enhancement programs such as "Proper Etiquette", "Preparing to be a Debutante" "Fire Safety"  "Financial  Aware" "How to Create a Business" are  just some of annual programs that we provide at no cost.  As times change we recognize the need to incorporate different programs and alternative ways to get the programs out to the communities. We are working toward a remote training program so that we can continue our works during this uncertain time.

Our journey is far from over, but we look forward to every minute of everyday we are able to provide services to our families.  â€‹
